I absolutely love The Sandlot. It's such a fun coming of age movie about some boys and baseball. Who doesn't love a fun summer time movie that's great for the whole family. The kids learn a lesson, the dog gets a home, and the new kid finds friends and a family.
It's great. And, what's more, it's an inspirational sports movie. I am a sucker for an inspirational sports movie. I love to watch and cheer. I get so nervous waiting for whether or not they win the big game. Even if I've seen it a million times before, I always get excited and anxious. I worry they won't make it. I worry they'll lose the game this time around. You name it, and I've seen it, loved it, and probably own it. There's Remember the Titans: a classic, The Blind Side, The Little Giants, and let's not forget A League of Their Own, after all my daughter's name is Dottie. But, The Sandlot isn't actually about winning or losing a game. It's about building family. It's about trusting people. How much do we trust? How much do we trust God?
So, one of my favorite scenes from the movie is when the boys are having a camp out, and the are making S'Mores. They ask Smalls (the main character) if he wants on. He has no idea what they are talking about so he asks how he can have more of something if he hasn't had any to start with. Upon hearing this, Ham (Hamilton Porter) says,

"You're killin' me Smalls!"
This is a line he uses throughout the movie when the rest of the boys are referencing something that they think everyone should know, yet Smalls has no idea what they are talking about. I mean really, what kid doesn't know what a S'More is.
But it reminds me of us as Christians. We are constantly trying to be in this relationship with God and act like we know what's going on. But, when God tells us to go to this place or do this thing, we say, "But why God? I can't do that. That's not for me."
I can hear God, if he were so impatient as us mere humans, look down and say, "You're killin' me Smalls."
You're killin' me Jamie. I know these things, but you don't trust me. I know the plans I have for you, Jamie. They're good plans. They are plans that will do you good, not harm. Just trust me.
But, we worry and fret. We get caught up in acting like we know what's best. Honestly, all we have to do is just sit back and let God tell us where to go. We have our very own built in coach. We don't have to know which play to use, we just have to use it.
So, think about what God's been calling you to do. What have you told God that you just can't do? What task have you declared to God that you are just not cut out for, even though he has given it to you to accomplish? For me, right now, it's motherhood. I don't always feel like I'm cut out for this job he's given me. But, then I hear in the back of my mind...
"You're killin' me Jamie."
